Offshore Merchant Account

A merchant account allows businesses to accept credit card payments from customers. Any business without a merchant account is an incomplete identity. Almost all businesses have a normal merchant account. However, there are few businesses that have an offshore merchant account have an edge above the others. The location of the bank is the only thing that distinguishes between an offshore merchant account and a normal merchant account.

An offshore merchant account is offered by a bank at a different location (Country) than the business, while a normal merchant account is usually offered by a bank in the same country.

For a new business - it is beneficial to have an offshore merchant account than a normal merchant account. When a business creates an offshore merchant account then the requirement of having existed for at least two years and making a security deposit of several thousand dollars gets forfeited.

A business that has an offshore merchant account avails the following benefits:

  • The bank offers some economical advantages to the business

  • The business can shop around to find the best deal in the whole world.

  • The bank helps the business in decreasing its taxes because of the location.

The only drawback of having an offshore merchant account is the higher processing fees. However, this part of the deal is also changing due to increased competition. Still, the higher processing fees might be a small issue compared with the many advantages offered by offshore merchant accounts.
