The government of Belize has announced plans to establish a new organisation that will be dedicated to facilitating the country’s participation in the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME).
A statement released after a Cabinet meeting last week revealed that the administration of Prime Minister Said Musa had agreed to introduce legislation that will create a new body to be know as the National Accreditation Council of Belize.
"This bill gives effect to Belize's obligations under the Caribbean Community Act to facilitate the movement of skills in the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME), with particular reference to the certification of professional qualifications," explained the statement.
The Belize government said that the Council would provide a mechanism to ensure that education and training at all levels are relevant to local needs and adhere to national, regional and international standards.
The CSME, a regional free trade area encompassing the Caribbean, is expected to be established by 2006.
